LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pluto TV (www.pluto.tv) the free and fast-growing over-the-top television service today announced that seasoned entertainment and technology executive Ken Parks is joining the company as Executive Chairman. In addition to serving as Chairman of the company’s board of directors, Parks will assume full-time executive duties leading Pluto TV’s content, distribution and monetization efforts along with other key business initiatives to accelerate the convergence of the television and online video industries.
Parks is joining Pluto TV from Spotify where he serves as Chief Content Officer. He has led Spotify’s global content and distribution operations, including overseeing the company’s worldwide music industry negotiations and relationships and leading the expansion into video and originals. In addition to leading the company’s global expansion, as Spotify’s first U.S. employee and Managing Director of Spotify USA, Parks also launched and rapidly grew Spotify’s offering in the U.S., the largest music market in the world. Parks has been with Spotify since 2007 and was one of the top executives leading Spotify’s massive worldwide success. Spotify has over 20 million paid subscribers and 75 million users today and generated $1.3 billion in revenue in 2014. He will remain a special advisor to Spotify’s founder and CEO Daniel Ek.
“The addition of a world class executive like Ken Parks to Pluto TV is a transformative moment for our company. Ken’s experience in building a successful global entertainment service will be invaluable to us as we capitalize on our strong momentum to rapidly grow Pluto TV,” said Tom Ryan, Co-Founder and CEO of Pluto TV. “With Ken’s expertise, Pluto TV is ready to deliver the best digital TV platform for consumers.”
Parks has served as an advisor to Pluto TV since 2014. Parks will be based in New York, where he will open an east coast office, but will spend a significant amount of time at Pluto’s headquarters in Los Angeles.
Parks was recognized by Fast Company as one of the 100 Most Creative People in Business in 2012. He brings a diverse background as an electrical engineer and intellectual property lawyer specializing in technology and IP related transactions, and has spent much of his career as a senior business executive for media companies such as Reuters and EMI Music.
“I believe Pluto TV has an enormous opportunity to define the future of television and online video. As an advisor since 2014, I’ve had a front row seat to the rapid growth the company has achieved so far and I’m thrilled to join the team full-time,” said Ken Parks. “The timing is perfect for Pluto TV to reach massive global scale and become one of the premier consumer video platforms in the world.”
