Ensuring the Most Appropriate Use of High-Tech Imaging with ImageSmart

ANN ARBOR, Mich.--()--ImageSmart™, a newly developed clinical decision support (CDS) tool from Altarum Institute, is effective in reducing unnecessary advanced diagnostic imaging tests that can put patients at risk and increase health care costs.

Created during a recent Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) grant-funded project, the overall program objectives focus on improving care by advancing decision support, reducing patient-induced demand, and leveraging provider accountability through reporting and feedback mechanisms. Program results are positive, demonstrating that providers who use the ImageSmart™ tool order a more appropriate test or an imaging alternative nearly 20% of the time.

ImageSmart™ is designed to fit seamlessly into the physician’s workflow and be easily accessible within the patient chart. Delivering up to date, evidenced-based guidelines from multiple professional societies, ImageSmart™ also supports physician decision making with important information regarding industry best practices, relative radiation exposure, and procedure cost. ImageSmart™ assists physicians as they work with patients to understand whether a particular imaging test is really necessary or effective or whether other care options should be considered.

ImageSmart™ has been certified for Allscripts TouchWorks® EHR and Allscripts Professional EHR™. The ImageSmart™ Team will be available at the Allscripts Client Experience (ACE) 2015 in Boston, Massachusetts, August 5–7. Come by Booth ADP40 to meet the team, check out all the innovative features of ImageSmart™, and register to win an Apple® Sport Watch.
