BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Putnam Investments today announced that Walter C. Donovan, the firm’s Chief Investment Officer, was recently named to the Board of Directors of Putnam Investments and has also joined the Executive Committee of the Board.
Donovan, a three-decade veteran of the investment industry, has led Putnam’s Investment division since 2009. He provides management and oversight for the firm’s worldwide investment organization, which has generated strong results – attracting the attention of the marketplace in recent years.

The Putnam Investments Board of Directors and its Executive Committee meet periodically to oversee the firm’s strategic priorities, overall management and operations. Its members include some of the most senior officers of the firm’s parent companies, as well as several independent directors.
Since joining Putnam Investments, Donovan has overseen an Investment group that currently manages nearly $160 billion in assets for retail, institutional and retirement clients. The firm has received numerous awards in recognition of its investment performance, and in 2014 was named one of the top two mutual fund families by Lipper/Barron's for the third time in five years.
Prior to joining Putnam, Donovan worked for 14 years at Fidelity Investments, serving as President of the firm’s Equity Division. Earlier, he served as Director in the Corporate Debt Trading Group at Merrill Lynch Capital Markets. He began his career as a municipal bond trader and underwriter at Salomon Brothers.
Donovan holds a B.A. degree in History and Political Science from Amherst College. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Amherst College, Boston’s Cathedral High School, Phillips Exeter Academy, and the Trustees of the Reservation.
