SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Native advertising pioneer MGID announced the results of their quality assurance routine from the first quarter of 2015 today, revealing that the U.S. leads the world in fraudulent traffic. The study was produced based on an analysis of more than 30 million invalid clicks that MGID’s quality assurance blocked.
MGID blocks three major categories of invalid clicks: “good bots” such as web crawlers and analytics that, while important, are not humans with the potential of performing a website conversion; all traffic that is a result of malicious publisher activity aiming to trick the network and make more money (robotic traffic, scripts, adware, clicks made under proxies to hide the real source location); and accidental clicks, repetitive clicks, accidental taps on the mobile, etc.
MGID’s quality assurance department compiled all of the invalid traffic from the first quarter of 2015 into a report and then analyzed the findings. Traffic from the U.S. accounted for 26% of global fraudulent traffic to the MGID ad network, followed by the U.K. at 19%, India at 9%, Asia at 9%, Europe at 9%, Canada at 4%. Other countries accounted for the remaining 24%.
Overall, 51% of all invalid clicks, including fraudulent clicks, blocked by MGID came from the U.S, while only 34% of all valid clicks came from the U.S.
“The U.S. market is the most lucrative one due to higher CPM's and online advertising spendings which leads to the development of the most sophisticated robotic traffic pretending to be human. The only way to identify robotic clicks for sure is to go beyond the click and track what user is doing on client's landing page,” said Sergey Denisenko, CEO, MGID. “It has always been our strategy and more companies are starting to do the same, including Facebook, who now track real purchases instead of clicks and page views. ”
However, the U.S. does dominate the world in quantity of “good bots,” amounting to 87% of this type of traffic, worldwide.
MGID tracks website traffic from their ad network in real time so that clients are not charged for invalid clicks, no matter the origin. The strict quality assurance system blocks more than 10 million clicks a month, saving up to a third of their client’s ad budgets. The system is in place to mitigate the threat invalid clicks pose to the MGID network and the profitability of the company and all of its clients.
