COLLIERVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Benevere Pharmacy today announced its approval for specialty pharmacy accreditation by URAC, a leading organization dedicated to health care quality though accreditation, education and measurement programs. This approval, the third for Benevere, makes it the only pharmacy in Tennessee to hold three independent pharmacy services accreditations, from the Accreditation Commission for Health Care, Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board and URAC.
“We value the rigorous accreditation processes and their importance in ensuring high-quality pharmacy organizations in the United States,” said Brett Wright, Pharm.D., CEO of Benevere. “Attaining these accreditations demonstrates Benevere’s superior service and commitment to our patients’ safety and well-being.”
URAC accreditation provides external validation of excellence in pharmacy management and continuous quality improvement-oriented processes that advance operations and enhance compliance. It also assists in preparing for regulatory compliance. Currently, only 76 pharmacies nationwide and only 10 in Tennessee hold URAC’s specialty pharmacy accreditation. Accredited pharmacies must meet a variety of standards, including regulatory compliance, staff qualifications, consumer protections, patient management and drug management, among others. Benevere began the process in August 2014 and completed it in June 2015.
Specialty pharmacies are full-service pharmacies specializing in filling prescriptions for certain high-cost biotech and injectable medications. Specialty medications help patients with complex conditions, including multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, certain cancers, solid organ transplant and hemophilia, among others. These drugs can be injected, infused or taken orally, and they typically require special handling and other expertise.
