Smart Fabrics, Original Designs and Fashion-forward Accessories Hit the Catwalk, Proving Wearable Tech Can Be Chic

NEW YORK--()--At CE Week, New York City’s largest consumer electronics (CE) and technology event, the tech industry and fashion worlds collide as designers and companies unveil the latest high-tech fashions and wearable tech for trendsetters and techfluencers alike. An engaging panel discussion on “Red Carpet Wearable Technology” sets the stage for a live runway show emceed by none other than Project Runway’s Chris March, known for his elegant ball gowns, outrageous hats and wigs, and larger-than-life personality. Produced by Living in Digital Times, the events take place on June 24th at the Metropolitan Pavilion, the hub for the three-day series of CE Week exhibits, conferences and events.

“Geek can be chic,” said Chris March, emcee of the FashionWare runway show at CE Week. “It’s exciting to see technologists and fashion designers working side by side to create beautiful, stylish, yet functional fabrics and wearable tech accessories for all the fashionistas out there.” An acclaimed TV personality and Project Runway breakout star, Chris March is a fashion and costume designer based in New York City.

The FashionWare runway show kicks off with quite the spectacle, sure to produce incredible photographs and video. Hit electro-pop band Sidney York will give a stimulating live performance decked out in Angela Dale original designs, which will be synchronized to their music. Canada-based Dale has been designing and building costumes and props for more than 25 years.

Featured designers with pieces on the catwalk also include:

  • Zoë Klintberg is a graduate from the University of Calgary with a multidisciplinary degree in Communication and Culture. She has used her expertise in collaborative thinking and creative directing to co-found Rocket House Productions Inc., a company that specializes in events, production and storytelling through various, and often disparate, mediums.
  • Som Kong, a recent graduate of the Fashion Design Program at Ryerson University, had one of the top 20 collections of his graduating class. The collection involves colorful manipulated materials and intricate designs that sculpt the body.
  • Valérie Lamontagne is a media artist-designer, theorist, curator, and PhD scholar researching “Performative Wearables: Bodies, Fashion and Technology” at Concordia University where she also teaches. She is the owner and designer at 3lectromode; founder-director of Agence Simultanée (a post-digital design lab); creative lead at Cirque du Soleil’s C:Lab; and also sits on the editorial board of media arts magazine Etc. Média.
  • Kevin Loney is the driving force behind Brain in Jars, a company that aims to help budding makers by supplying creative kits and goodies to nudge them down the fantastical path of making and let their inner maker flourish and grow.
  • Maria Orduz Pinto is an accomplished designer currently working as a senior designer with the world-leading wearable technology organization MakeFashion. In this role, she continues to explore the endless possibilities of infusing technology in the fashion, apparel and manufacturing industries.
  • Robert Tu is the founder of MeU, a company devoted to developing interactive and reactive clothing. Tu’s electrical engineering background fuels his passion for high-tech design.
  • Michael Zoffranieri, currently enrolled in Ryerson’s Fashion Apparel Program, has already launched his own label, ZOFF. His mantra is “Art is Movement.”
