NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pursuing its mission to find and encourage promising startups, Launch Tennessee’s signature conference 36|86 came to a rousing conclusion yesterday, awarding Jewel Burks, the female founder at PartPic, the 36|86 Blackstone Award of $36,000 for best startup overall.
The Audience Choice selections were won by three companies: PartPic of Atlanta, PriceWaiter from Chattanooga and Roots Rated, also of Chattanooga. Over 900 attendees, 122 investors representing 86 different firms including 50 plus from outside Tennessee, and 34 startups in the Startup Village came together to celebrate regional entrepreneurship. Governor Bill Haslam made an appearance underscoring the importance of entrepreneurship in the region, as did Randy Boyd, Commissioner at the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development.
“36|86 was a resounding success and we could not be more pleased with the audience feedback received,” says Launch Tennessee CEO Charlie Brock. “The ecosystem of startups and investors in the southeast is as healthy as I have ever seen it. We thank everyone who devoted their time, energy and resources to create a first-class event.”
Kristina Montague, a panelist on the early stage venture panel and managing partner at The Jump Fund, the first venture fund by women for women in the region, says she loves this conference.
“This conference is growing into something outstanding,” Montague says. “I attended Launch Tennessee’s first conference two years ago - one of a handful of women. This year, from the opening keynote Julia Hartz, CEO and co-founder at Eventbrite, to Cat Clifford from Entrepreneur and Geri Stengel from Forbes moderating, to seeing Kelly Hoey moderating and participating on the judging committee, to the branding panel with Nora Levinson and Lisa Calhoun, to my own early stage investing panel and the audience itself - women were a huge part of the conference. I’m looking forward to seeing that trajectory continue and appreciate Launch Tennessee for their commitment to women in technology.”
On both days of the conference #3686south was trending on Twitter, including the top trend on Tuesday afternoon. Many notable participants in the conference also joined in the conversation online:
