FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--()--A colorful all-in-one writing instrument with interchangeable writing tips. A portable desk that lets students work anywhere. A floating locker shelf that maximizes and stylizes lockers. These are a few of the innovative products designed by students for students as part of the unique Designed by Students education initiative.

Staples will introduce the new school supplies in stores nationwide and at Staples.com starting on June 28. Teams of middle school students collaborated as part of Staples’ unique Designed by Students education initiative to create products that solve school supply needs.

“Staples is empowering students to make more happen through research, collaboration and entrepreneurial thinking,” said Scott Young, senior vice president of product and business development, Staples. “The first Designed by Students program gave students the opportunity to collaborate and solve real-life problems. Students were able to see how their ideas and creativity transformed into innovative new products.”

The program provides an original, educational experience to students, with a curriculum designed to foster creative thinking and teach students about designing innovative products. Participating students defined the issues students’ face, researched products in the category, brainstormed to identify possible product solutions, built prototypes and pitched a final concept.

The Designed by Students products include exclusive folders, pencil pouches, backpacks, lunch bags, locker shelves and portable desks that all feature multiple uses.
