BETHESDA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) will host the Long Beach Walk4Hearing at Long Beach (CA) Marina on Saturday, June 6, 2015, with check-in and registration at 9 a.m. and the 5K Walk at 10 a.m. There will be pre-Walk refreshments, snacks, and family-friendly entertainment. The Long Beach Walk4Hearing is one of 21 events happening across the nation this year to support the hearing loss community. To register online, visit walk4hearing.org.
To further its goal of creating awareness about hearing loss and directly impact the communities where the Walk4Hearing takes place, HLAA has teamed up with Alliance groups at each Walk. This program offers a unique collaboration between HLAA and nonprofit, hearing-related organizations such as schools, hospitals, and hearing health care-related entities. The Walk4Hearing provides these Alliances with the opportunity to retain a portion of the money raised to develop and support hearing-related programs within their own community. The success of this program is evident in its growth from 16 Alliances in 2008 to 150 in 2014.
The Walk4Hearing would like to thank the following 2015 Walk4Hearing National Sponsors for their support of this year’s Walks:
10th Anniversary Sponsor – CapTel Captioned Telephone
Presenting Sponsor: MED-EL
Platinum Sponsor: hi HealthInnovations
Diamond Sponsor: IntriCon
The local Gold Sponsor for this year’s Long Beach Walk is AT&T.
Since its inception in 2006, the Walk4Hearing has raised more than $9 million and has welcomed 58,000 walkers, making it the nation's largest and fastest-growing hearing loss fundraising and public awareness Walk in the country. In addition to raising awareness, Walk4Hearing raises funds that are used in local communities.
The Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA), founded in 1979, opens the world of communication to people with hearing loss through information, education, support and advocacy. In addition to the Walk4Hearing program, HLAA publishes the bimonthly Hearing Loss Magazine, holds annual conventions (Convention 2015 is June 25-28 in St. Louis, MO), advocates for the rights of people with hearing loss, and has an extensive network of chapters and state organizations across the country. The national headquarters is located at 7910 Woodmont Avenue, Suite 1200, Bethesda, MD 20814. Phone: 301.657.2248 or visit hearingloss.org.
