SEATTLE--()--Attorney Advertising. Keller Rohrback L.L.P. is investigating recent reports that CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield announced a significant data breach that exposed the names, birthdates, email addresses, and other personal information of more than one million Washington, D.C. residents.

The Company said in a statement: “Evidence suggests the attackers could have potentially acquired member-created user names created by individuals to access CareFirst’s website, as well as members’ names, birth dates, email addresses and subscriber identification number.”

“Health care consumers have a right to trust that their highly confidential and personal information – information that is used to commit identity theft and fraud – is secure,” said attorney Matthew Preusch, a member of Keller Rohrback’s nationally recognized complex litigation group.

Approximately 1.1 million current and former CareFirst members and individuals who do business with CareFirst online who registered to use CareFirst’s websites prior to June 20, 2014 are affected by this event.
