ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Anova, a leading manufacturer of innovative, high-quality site furnishings, and SWT Design today revealed a fully bloomed outdoor space at the new Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Mo. On May 22, 2011, an EF-5 tornado devastated the town and severely damaged the hospital.
Mercy Hospital (formerly St. John’s Regional Medical Center) hired St. Louis-based SWT Design to lead the landscape design efforts for the hospital reconstruction. SWT looked to transform the facility’s 100 acres and enrich lives by creating places for people that benefit patients and the community.
“We have created a peaceful and revitalizing environment for patients, their families and those in the community,” said Chris Moon, landscape designer, SWT Design. “We were honored to design a living space that will bring comfort to those who have gone through and are continuing to go through so much.”
“Nature has shown to be beneficial for a person’s overall health, and healing gardens have become increasingly popular,” said Michele Stewart, Mercy Hospital Joplin chief operating officer. “With the healing garden now in full bloom, we have already seen a positive effect for our patients and families. The beautiful outdoor setting helps us care for people in a refreshing and welcoming way.”
The garden consists of fountains, lighting, flowers, plants and open areas for patients to enjoy.
“Creating an open public space was top of mind when SWT approached us,” said Eric Gilbert, Anova CEO. “Our team is proud to be able to provide site furniture for the hospital grounds and gardens and to be a part of rebuilding this healing community space.”
The new hospital opened this March. The garden is now fully in bloom and open to the public.
