NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As part of this year’s American Icons campaign, Macy’s will again team up with one of the nation’s most innovative veteran empowerment initiatives, Got Your 6. Now in its third year, the charitable program will kick off with a new social activation, #AmericanSelfie, a “Got Your 6 Saturday” savings pass, and a commercial spot with Emmy Award-winning host and producer, Ryan Seacrest.
In the military, “got your six” is a term that means “I’ve got your back.” Uniting the resources of the entertainment industry with a coalition of veteran-focused, nonprofit partners, Got Your 6 is committed to improving veteran reintegration, celebrating veterans as civic leaders and assets, and putting their valuable skills to work at home. Driven by the belief that veterans have the unique potential to strengthen communities across the country, Got Your 6 creates opportunities for veterans to lead once they re-enter civilian life.
“Got Your 6 is an amazing organization that helps make positive contributions to the veteran community every day,” said Martine Reardon, Macy’s chief marketing officer. “Since 2013, Macy’s has raised more than $5 million for Got Your 6 and its nonprofit partners. With the support of Macy’s associates and customers, we hope to increase awareness and funds so Got Your 6 can continue its mission to help veterans make America stronger.”
Show Us Your #AmericanSelfie
New this year, Macy’s introduces a social media initiative to celebrate the American mosaic of people, places and things that make our country great. Now through July 4, people can share their #AmericanSelfie photos on Instagram and Twitter, showcasing what they love most about America. For each photo tagged with #AmericanSelfie, Macy’s will donate $1 to Got Your 6 to support military veterans, up to $250,000. In addition, #AmericanSelfie will be part of Macy's 4th of July Fireworks show, the nation’s largest Independence Day display telecast nationally on NBC.
Give Back. Get Back. – Got Your 6
Macy’s continues the “Got Your 6 Saturday” tradition this year with a special savings pass on Saturday, May 16, where customers can give $3 at any register across the country and receive 25 percent off all day. Beyond “Got Your 6 Saturday,” customers can still support America’s veterans from May 17 through May 25, by giving $3 at the register to receive a savings pass for 20 percent off storewide on apparel for him, her and kids, and 15 percent off watches, shoes, coats, suits, dresses, swim for her, intimates, suit separates and sportcoats for him, fine and fashion jewelry, and select home items. Some exclusions and restrictions apply. One hundred percent of donations will be given to Got Your 6 and its nonprofit partners to empower returning veterans and military families. “Got Your 6 and our nonprofit partners are tremendously thankful for Macy’s continued dedication to veterans,” said Chris Marvin, Managing Director of Got Your 6. “As a result of the Macy’s American Icons campaign, we have empowered more than 2 million veterans and families to strengthen their communities. Through this year’s partnership with Macy’s, we’re excited to carry forward this momentum.”
To help spread the word about the Macy’s partnership with Got Your 6 and how customers can get involved, Hollywood entrepreneur and broadcaster Ryan Seacrest will appear in a commercial spot that will premiere nationally beginning May 13. Seacrest also will participate in the American Icons campaign with curated merchandise from his men’s collection, Ryan Seacrest Distinction, available exclusively at Macy’s.
