NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tony and Emmy Award winner and Golden Globe Nominee Mandy Patinkin joins the cast of Sprout’s newest original series, “NINA’S WORLD,” lending his iconic voice to the character of Mr. Lambert, the friendly community librarian. “NINA’S WORLD” is the animated prequel to Sprout’s signature block “The Good Night Show,” featuring the adventures of Nina – the show’s star - as a six-year-old girl.
Patinkin will voice Mr. Lambert, a gentle, sweet man who serves as the local librarian in Nina’s vibrant, multicultural neighborhood. He is a close friend of Nina’s grandmother, Abuelita, voiced by the legendary Rita Moreno, and aims to work up the courage to bring her flowers and show his true feelings for her. Mr. Lambert is a very meticulous man with an encyclopedic memory, whipping up the most amazing facts in the blink of an eye. Mr. Lambert spends most of his time in the library, and inspires Nina and her friends to read and embrace the arts.
Patinkin is most recently known for his role as Saul Berenson in the hit series “Homeland.” He has wowed audiences across the world as an acclaimed interpreter of the musical works of Stephen Sondheim and is noted for his performances in musical theater, originating iconic roles such as Georges Seurat in “Sunday in the Park with George” and Ché in the original Broadway production of “Evita.” Patinkin is also known for his portrayal of Inigo Montoya in “The Princess Bride,” among other film credits like “Alien Nation,” “Yentl,” and more.
“‘NINA’S WORLD’ is a marquee original series for Sprout and we are excited to welcome Mandy to this talented, diverse cast,” said Andrew Beecham, Senior Vice President, Programming, Sprout. “When we created the character of Mr. Lambert, we knew we wanted Mandy to voice the role, as the character’s love for the arts are so true to what we knew about him. It’s a privilege to have him on board.”
“NINA’S WORLD” tells the story of imaginative six-year-old Nina, based on the childhood of the beloved character Nina from Sprout’s “The Good Night Show.” Nina invites viewers to join her and best friend, Star, on a day of fun within her vibrant and colorful neighborhood. Every day transforms into a new excursion around the neighborhood - celebrating family, community, diversity and wonder. Nina embraces the big wonder of every day moments in the world around her.
Patinkin joins the legendary Rita Moreno, who will voice the role of Abuelita, Sprout’s Michele Lepe, who will voice the role of Mami, and newcomer Isabella Farrier, who will voice the role of young Nina. “NINA’S WORLD” will premiere on Sprout in September 2015. Sprout is working with Pipeline Studios, the Canadian production company, to create “NINA’S WORLD.” Lepe also serves as executive producer.
