Aetna Names Cain Hayes to Head Mid-America Region

COLUMBUS, Ohio--()--Aetna (NYSE: AET) has named Cain Hayes as president of its Mid-America operations. He is based in Columbus, Ohio. In this role, Hayes oversees profit and loss and full operations for commercial middle market; small group; and individual businesses as well as the public-sector, Taft-Hartley labor and Medicare businesses within the 14-state Mid-America region. He also oversees network and medical management in the region.

Aetna’s Mid-America region consists of Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, and Kansas.

Prior to this role, Hayes was president of Aetna’s government-sector and Taft-Hartley Labor business, which delivers customer-focused benefit solutions to federal, state and local government entities in addition to labor groups. He has been with Aetna since 2010.

Before Aetna, Hayes held a number of executive leadership positions for Fortune 500 companies, including head of sales functions for retirement divisions at Nationwide and Principal Financial Group.

Originally from St. Louis, Hayes currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Drake University and the Board of Directors for the Employee Benefits Research Institute (EBRI). Previously, he served on the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross of Central Iowa and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa.

Hayes has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and a Master’s in Business Administration from Webster University in St. Louis.
