ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Comcast today was awarded “2015 Business Partner of the Year” by The Arc Greater Twin Cities / Arc’s Value Village for volunteer services provided each year at Arc’s Value Village Thrift Stores & Donation Centers throughout the Twin Cities. Since 2008, Comcast has provided volunteer services to The Arc as part of the company’s annual Comcast Cares Day community investment program.
The Arc promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, actively supporting them and their families in a lifetime of full inclusion and participation in their communities.
“Our core mission is to advocate for and provide services to families, and we rely on local partners like Comcast to help make our work possible,” said Pam Carlson, Director of Community Relations for The Arc Greater Twin Cities. “Comcast is a long-time partner, completing key projects each year at store sites throughout the Twin Cities. Comcast volunteers are at all five stores, and they make a huge difference. Their volunteer efforts mean more store proceeds can go to support programs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families through The Arc Greater Twin Cities.”
This year alone, more than 170 Comcast Twin Cities employees volunteered at five Arc’s Value Village locations as part of Comcast Cares Day on April 25. The teams completed a series of projects including sorting donations for resale such as clothing, accessories, house wares, books and toys. In all, their efforts processed $37,000 in donations!
The Arc will honor Comcast as its 2015 Business Partner of the Year during The Arc Greater Twin Cities Annual Volunteer Celebration on May 1.
“We are pleased to provide the opportunity for our employees and their families to volunteer each year at The Arc,” said Mary Beth Schubert, Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Comcast-Twin Cities. “The Arc provides critical services to our communities throughout the region, and Comcast is honored to help support their achievements through the passion and dedication of our Twin Cities employees.”
Comcast’s work on behalf of The Arc was part of an even larger effort as more than 2,000 local Comcast employees, their families, friends and community partners volunteered at 34 non-profit sites throughout the Twin Cities on Saturday, April 25, as part of the company’s annual Comcast Cares Day. Started by Comcast in 2001, this community-based day of giving takes place each April and is the largest single-day corporate volunteer effort in the country.
In 2015, more than 95,000 volunteers participated in more than 700 projects across the country and around the globe during Comcast Cares Day. To date, volunteers have contributed more than 3.7 million service hours to improve nearly 6,000 projects in the U.S. and around the world since the first Comcast Cares Day in 2001.
Comcast has been committed to serving local communities since its founding more than 50 years ago. For more information on the company’s volunteer and community investment initiatives, visit http://www.comcast.com/community.
