Box Introduces Box Developer Edition to Power Apps for the Digital Enterprise

Company Rolls out New Developer Tools, Including Fundamentally New User Model for Building Applications on the Box Platform

SAN FRANCISCO--()--In front of an audience of more than 1,500 developers at Box Dev, the company’s second annual developer conference, Box (NYSE: BOX) today introduced Box Developer Edition, which includes a new user and authentication model for building apps on the Box platform. For the first time, Box Developer Edition provides developers with their own complete Box instance, allowing them to tap the full power of Box in their apps and reimagine workflows for any industry. In addition, the company showcased advanced content services for Box’s preview technology, and launched breakthrough modular SDKs for building on the world’s most popular mobile devices.

The Box platform ecosystem has grown to nearly 50,000 third-party developers building their applications on Box and making 4.5 billion API calls each month. During the day’s keynote, the company showcased its growing ecosystem of leading integration partners including 3DPrinterOS, Confide, Convo, Domo, eHealth Technologies, Envoy, FiftyThree, Folloze,, InVision, K2, Procore, Symphony, Tipbit and Venzee.

Box Developer Edition: A Developer-Owned Box Instance with Full Box Functionality

A seamless new way to build on the Box platform, Box Developer Edition is a developer-owned instance of Box with full Box enterprise functionality that gives the developer complete control over the user experience. Powered by a new user and authentication model, Box Developer Edition allows for the creation and provisioning of individual users associated only with the developer’s application and authenticates those applications directly to Box, providing users with a seamless experience. Several leading software companies have committed to building on Box Developer Edition, including Advent Software, Exitround and Sensery.

Extending the Most Advanced Viewing Experience on the Web

Box highlighted advancements for its world-class preview experience, including new ecosystem partners and powerful SDKs for PHP, Java, and .NET, that make content a first class citizen on the web and mobile. The company is working with leading integration partners including Airtable, Appcelerator, Autodesk, Brightact, Greenhouse, Highspot, Hightower, Kapost, Lithium Technologies, Mindflash, PlanGrid, Redbooth, Showpad, Submittable and Xendo. Box also demoed new advancements to its Preview technology including 3D preview, medical imaging and watermarking.

New Breakthrough Modular SDKs for Building on iOS and Android

The company introduced a new set of mobile SDKs that make it incredibly easy for developers to build enterprise apps on Box. The new SDKs introduce lightweight, reusable components for mobile app development that take advantage of Box’s clean UI and comprehensive enterprise security features. The core components of the Content, Preview, Browse and Share mobile SDKs introduce new ways for developers to quickly build and enable user authentication, preview permissions, enhanced collaboration and streamlined navigation.

Investing in the Box Platform Ecosystem

Box also announced that top-tier Silicon Valley venture firms, Bessemer Venture Partners and Emergence Capital, have shared with Box their intention to each commit up to 20 million dollars to invest in enterprise software companies that are leveraging the Box Platform. With a track record of successful enterprise and cloud investments, Bessemer Venture Partners and Emergence Capital are well suited to provide these best-in-class startups with the capital to build the next generation of enterprise software.
