Citrix Sponsors OpenStack Foundation to Help Drive Cloud Interoperability Standards

Citrix Cloud Infrastructure and Networking Products To Support Leading OpenStack Distributions

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--()--Today, Citrix announced that it has become a Corporate Sponsor of the OpenStack Foundation. By joining the foundation’s community of contributors, Citrix demonstrates its continued commitment towards driving interoperability among standards-based cloud platforms and meeting the increasing demand for choice and flexibility in private, public and hybrid cloud solutions. NetScaler™ and XenServer™ solutions from Citrix are used as core infrastructure for some of the largest cloud infrastructure providers in the world, and this announcement brings the power of these products to customers choosing to build their clouds on OpenStack.

As a leading provider of applications, mobility, networking and cloud services, Citrix has a long history in helping to define standards across the industry and accelerate broad adoption of open source cloud projects. In the early days of the OpenStack project, Citrix actively contributed to the OpenStack codebase and community. As a Corporate Sponsor, Citrix will engage in a broad set of technology and architecture activities and will integrate Citrix cloud infrastructure and networking solutions with leading OpenStack distributions.

Citrix continues to support other industry standardization and open-source initiatives including the Apache Software Foundation and Linux Foundation and will continue to invest in cloud infrastructure platforms including Apache CloudStack and CloudPlatform.

The OpenStack Foundation serves more than 22,000 individual members from 155 countries around the world and supports developers, users and the entire ecosystem by providing a set of shared resources to grow the footprint of public and private clouds. Citrix is joined in today’s announcement by a number of technology partners and vendors who share a common goal of collaboration, innovation and standardization under a proven framework and foundation.

Imad Sousou, Vice President and General Manager, Open Source Technology Center, Intel Corporation and Board Member, OpenStack Foundation

“Intel is excited to continue our collaboration with Citrix on open initiatives such as OpenStack, Xen, and Open Data Center Alliance. Intel has long been a leading contributor to the Xen community, and will continue working with Citrix to make XenServer a powerful hypervisor for OpenStack. Additionally, the Intel Network Builders Community will help accelerate the development of Intel Xeon-powered Citrix NetScaler product family, providing Open Network Platform validated reference architectures based on OpenStack and other open standards."

Boris Renski, Chief Marketing Officer, Mirantis

“Citrix’s membership is a testament to the growth and maturity of the OpenStack community. We plan to build upon our existing relationship with Citrix to support customers looking to deploy Mirantis OpenStack with NetScaler and XenServer.”

Jonathan Bryce, Executive Director, OpenStack Foundation

“Diversity and choice are two powerful drivers behind both the success of OpenStack and the growing list of companies who have chosen OpenStack as their infrastructure platform. We’re glad to see Citrix become a Corporate Sponsor, and we look forward to the contributions they can bring to the community as it continues driving cloud infrastructure innovation and software maturity.”

Van Lindberg, Vice President and Associate General Counsel, Rackspace

"Rackspace is delighted that Citrix is rejoining the OpenStack Foundation. OpenStack is gaining a lot of momentum right now, particularly within the enterprise market, and it’s an effort Rackspace is proud to have co-founded and be a part of. Citrix was a good partner when we established OpenStack, and we expect they will be an important contributor as OpenStack moves forward.”

Klaus Oestermann, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Delivery Networks, Citrix

"We’re pleased to formally sponsor the OpenStack Foundation to help drive cloud interoperability standards. Citrix products like NetScaler, through the recently announced NetScaler Control Center, and XenServer, are already integrated with OpenStack.
