CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--HIMSS15 booth #3848—Imprivata® (NYSE: IMPR), the healthcare IT security company, continues to advance its leadership in delivering innovative authentication technologies with the introduction of a breakthrough proximity-based hands-free authentication solution for healthcare. The patented technology wirelessly retrieves and verifies a one-time password (OTP) from a user’s mobile device without requiring any manual interaction, enabling fast, convenient two-factor authentication that meets DEA requirements for electronic prescribing of controlled substances (EPCS).
“Imprivata’s new hands-free authentication technology is a significant breakthrough in healthcare IT, demonstrating how security can be made invisible and convenient to users to optimize clinical workflows,” said Omar Hussain, president and CEO of Imprivata. “Imprivata continues to deliver cutting-edge products that help solve some of our customers’ most critical challenges, and we believe our new proximity-based hands-free technology delivers the fast, convenient two-factor authentication necessary to drive adoption of EPCS.”
Imprivata’s new solution meets the DEA’s two-factor authentication requirements for EPCS and will be offered with Imprivata Confirm ID™, the industry’s most comprehensive authentication platform for EPCS. Imprivata Confirm ID is the first integrated product that delivers provider identity-proofing, supervised enrollment of providers’ approved credentials, and support for multiple DEA-approved two-factor authentication modalities, including fingerprint biometrics and now, proximity-based hands-free OTP. This gives care providers flexibility to optimize the authentication options that best fit their prescribing workflows.
“Imprivata’s new authentication technology is a game-changer for EPCS. Hard and soft tokens offer robust security, but they are inconvenient, frustrate providers, and disrupt e-prescribing workflows,” said Rajiv Pramanik, MD, CMIO of Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (Martinez, Calif.). “The ability to meet the DEA two-factor authentication requirements with a proximity-based, hands-free solution that automatically retrieves the second factor greatly improves the provider experience. I expect the implementation of this technology along with the additional comprehensive authentication capabilities offered by Imprivata Confirm ID will help healthcare organizations more easily adopt and scale EPCS and realize its significant benefits.”
When Imprivata’s new hands-free authentication technology is enabled, Imprivata Confirm ID will leverage wireless Bluetooth connectivity to automatically retrieve and verify the OTP from a care provider’s mobile device, even if it is locked. This gives care providers a fast, secure, frictionless two-factor authentication solution that meets DEA requirements for EPCS with no disruption to e-prescribing workflows.
Imprivata will showcase its new authentication technology as well as Imprivata Confirm ID and its other solutions for authentication, access management, and secure communications in booth #3848 at the HIMSS15 Annual Conference & Exhibition.
