(AMEX: FSI, FRANKFURT: FXT), is the developer and manufacturer of biodegradable polymers for oil extraction, detergent ingredients and water treatment as well as crop nutrient availability chemistry. Flexible Solutions also manufactures biodegradable and environmentally safe water and energy conservation technologies. Today with great sadness, the Company announces, that Dr. Robert O’Brien, Director, co-founder and chief science officer passed away peacefully on March 23rd. He was 93.
Mr. Dan O’Brien, CEO and Dr. O’Brien’s son, says, “We founded Flexible Solutions together back in 1991, invented products together and built the company together through acquisition of the NanoChem division. Dr. O’Brien will be greatly missed. His personality, his wide scientific expertise and his business acumen were huge assets to the Company.”
Dr. O’Brien was born in Nanaimo, Canada in 1921. He received degrees in chemical engineering, chemistry and metallurgy from the University of British Columbia and his doctorate in chemistry from the University of Manchester. Bob served as a pilot in the Canadian Air Force during the Second World War and in the reserve for many years after. His chemistry career included research for the Canadian government and professorships at the University of Alberta, Berkley and the University of Victoria where he was professor emeritus until his passing. During this career, Dr. O’Brien founded and ran several small companies, obtained dozens of patents and published hundreds of papers. He is survived by his wife, Helen, his five children and his six grandchildren.
