SXSW 2015

SANTA CLARA, Calif. & AUSTIN, Texas--()--SoundHound Inc., a pioneering company in sound recognition and search technologies, will head to Austin, Texas, for South by Southwest (SXSW) 2015, to showcase its platform as the first music identification service deployed via wearable technology. The SoundHound mobile app has been downloaded and used by more than 250 million people around the world and the service has already been integrated in automobiles, starting with select Hyundai and Kia vehicles.

SoundHound’s technology is currently integrated into the Casio G-SHOCK GBA-400, a Bluetooth smartwatch that began shipping in Japan in September 2014, and is now available for purchase in the U.S. Through one touch on their connected watch, users can search for music that is playing in their environment, and learn the song title as it appears on the watch display. SoundHound plans to launch on more wearables later this year.

As the gateway to all-things music search, discovery and play, SoundHound is partnering with Culture COLLiDE for a special showcase series at Container Bar, presented by Hard Rock Hotel, on Rainey Street during SXSW Music. During the event, SoundHound will be doing demos for VIP attendees as well as offering a special experience for fans on site, and give users a chance to win a G-SHOCK GBA-400.

The three-day, four-night event will feature on-the-rise musical artists, such as Pujol, Marian Hill, Geographer, The Vaccines, SZA and Elliphant, and many more, running from Wednesday, March 18, through Saturday, March 21.

“Innovation and music are core to SoundHound, which makes SXSW a perfect setting for us to showcase our first-to-market wearable music recognition technology, while keeping the use-cases meaningful and focused on music,” said Katie McMahon, vice president and general manager, SoundHound Inc. “Just as we have been the first movers in-car and now on wearables, we are pleased to be working with the Culture COLLiDE team, the first movers in spotting and propelling music talent, to introduce rising stars to a live audience in Austin and, via the SoundHound mobile experience, to reach tens of millions of users across the world.”

“As a company committed to bringing new music to consumers in smart and interactive ways, Culture COLLiDE is excited to partner with SoundHound, the leading mobile tech innovator in music,” said Alan Miller, founder, Culture COLLiDE. “Not only is the service quick and accurate in identifying music, but its incredibly robust platform – especially now with its expansion to wearables – opens users up to a whole realm of music discovery.”

The fastest and most accurate music identification service on the market, SoundHound is the only platform that can identify a song by singing or humming. The service also includes a long list of features that make music discovery interactive and engaging for all:

  • LiveLyrics, providing lyrics in real time with the song as it plays
  • Integration with Spotify and Rdio, including direct “add to playlist” ability, as well as Pandora, iTunes Radio and Beats Music
  • TouchTunes integration, allowing users to launch songs from within SoundHound to the digital jukebox in more than 60,000 venues
  • Social media sharing via Facebook and Twitter
  • Click to purchase from iTunes, Google Play and Amazon
  • Access to watch full music videos
  • DNA of Music, the exploration of songs to uncover the covers, remixes and samples associated
  • Music Map detailing a personalized musical journey by location of ID’d songs

SoundHound representatives will be on site to give one-on-one demos of the platform. Media or business representatives interested in setting up a meeting should contact pr@soundhound.com to coordinate.
