Investors, entrepreneurs, business leaders explore technology’s impact on education and identify the emerging players

SAN MATEO, Calif.--()--The Global Technology Symposium (GTS), distinguished as Silicon Valley’s “must-attend” event for investors looking to discover new opportunities and for entrepreneurs looking to expand, is this year identifying the technologies and players around the world shaping education’s future path at “Learn, Start, Lead”. The 12th annual symposium and startup competition are taking place on April 1-3 at the Rosewood Sand Hill in Menlo Park, Calif.

Identifying technology’s next big trend and bringing dealmakers together is what GTS is about,” explained Alexandra Johnson, founder and president of Global Technology Symposium, LLC. “Education is where we are seeing a dramatic shift.”

Corporate leaders, top investors and promising entrepreneurs gather each year at the symposium to discuss key trends and new growth opportunities in emerging markets and to witness the next wave of technologies that will reshape the global economy.

This year, speakers will question the traditional framework of education and look to the innovative companies and ideas leading the way. Key speakers include Guy Kawasaki, published author, executive fellow at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley and chief evangelist of Canva, Tim Draper, founder of Draper University and founding partner of DFJ and Draper Associates and Dave McClure, founding partner of 500 Startups.

The remarkable three-day program features the best and the brightest from around the globe in thought–provoking panels, engaging startup pitches and exclusive networking events.

Chief executives from RVC, Silicon Valley Bank, IBM Venture Group, Almaz Capital, Google Ventures, Mayfield Fund, US Venture Partners and Wavemaker Partners will discuss navigating the global technology landscape; leaders from universities, associations and institutes including the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, RUSSOFT Association, Kyoto University, Silicon Valley Education Foundation and UCLA will take a look at the next level of innovation; emerging players Galxyz, PediaConnect and Two Bit Circus will showcase their advancements while companies AltSchool, Catamount, EdSurge, GSV Asset Management, LinguaLeo, Piazza and Udemy will explore what education technology means for the world.

“Educational technologies are changing the world by opening up the way we learn and the way we start ventures. Its critical to stay on top of recent developments,” GTS Speaker Guy Kawasaki said.

Technology is transforming education. iPads are replacing books in the classroom. Interactive games are becoming education tools. Universities are embracing online learning. Budding entrepreneurs are studying entrepreneurship. Lifelong learning is becoming more integrated in business.

There is a new face of education giving creators the tools to bring their ideas to life and go beyond what they thought possible. Advanced technologies and innovative teaching methods are making the impossible possible,” Tim Draper, GTS speaker, explained.

Global Innovator Competition

Bringing to the stage creators and their startups, GTS’s annual Global Innovator Competition has selected 10 startups from around the world (Canada, Finland, France, India, Korea, Philippines, Russia, USA) to face a panel of top-notch judges in a three-day race, where the winner will receive the Global Innovator Award. Judge panels of experienced investors, skillful corporate leaders, accomplished policymakers, promising entrepreneurs and next-generation trendsetters will push startups to challenge their comfort zones and think well beyond the box in a fast-paced format.

It was really amazing to be able to connect with people from half way around the world. And we all share the common purpose of building value. It’s been very educational,” Neighbor.ly CEO Jase Wilson said after winning the 2014 competition.
