HUDSON, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Executive Producer Dr. Susan Speers of Akron, Ohio-based Prodigal Productions announced today the staging of the New York City premiere of "Possum Dreams," a new play by Ed Falco.
"Possum Dreams" is a comedy about a married couple caught in the unraveling illusions that have held them together for eighteen years. The play opens with Walter coming home from teaching, distressed because a transsexual student has been flirting with him. It’s a revelation that leads to an intense, yet hysterical battle revealing the chaos under the surface of the carefully ordered lives of Walter and his wife Jan. The play was premiered to critical acclaim in the summer of 2014 at Akron's None Too Fragile Theatre.
"When I saw the play in Akron I was convinced it was a really great play that should be given a chance to be seen in New York. Good new plays are hard to come by and when you see a really good one, NYC is the place it should be launched," explained Speers. "I approached Mr. Falco and the play's director, Sean Derry, and together with the original cast and crew, we're taking the play off-Broadway."
None Too Fragile will preview the play again March 14-15, 2015 at 8:00 p.m., both evenings. Following that preview, Speers' Prodigal Productions along with co-producers Carson Films — owned by George & Lisa Carson of Hudson, Ohio — will take the play to Theatre 54, Shetler Studios, near the corner of 54th and Broadway in New York City.
"The play is a hilarious good time," said Derry. "And we're pleased that Mr. Falco has put his faith in us to premiere the play in New York City. It's not often that a theatre company from Akron, Ohio does something like this off-Broadway, but we're looking forward to showcasing the talents of a few Northeast Ohio natives in front of a whole new audience."
The New York City production will run eight consecutive nights at 8:00 p.m., beginning March 18. Tickets are available now at www.nonetoofragile.com.
