New Survey Results Reveal the Paramount Importance of Bonds between Women
Forget Valentine’s Day. This February, it’s all about Galentine’s Day. According to an independent survey conducted by the Skinny Cow brand, 62 percent of women have mixed feelings about Valentine’s Day — but 74 percent think there should be a separate holiday just for celebrating friendships. That’s why, on February 13, Skinny Cow is encouraging women everywhere to celebrate Galentine’s Day and honor the other true love in their lives — their best girlfriends.
To encourage women to take a moment to honor these very important relationships, Skinny Cow has released data shedding light on the bonds between female friends.

According to the research, 71 percent of women say their best girlfriend understands them better than anyone, and 70 percent would rather have drinks with their best friend than their significant other.
Survey Says: Women Share a Powerful Connection
The recent survey by the Skinny Cow brand further validates years of research showing the paramount importance of close social bonds between women, both for their overall happiness and for their mental and physical well-being. Additional survey findings show that:
- The First True Love – of a Lifetime!: 1 in 3 women said their “first love” was a female friend, not a significant other
- Girls Just Get Each Other: 6 in 10 women said their girlfriends are better confidantes than their significant others, outstripping their romantic partners at listening, being honest, and not judging.
- Girlfriends are Good for Your Health: Stress kills, and time spent with gal pals seems to be a potent antidote. After hanging out with girlfriends, 67 percent of women reported they feel less stressed and 73 percent said they feel happier.
- You Should See Her More: 7 in 10 women don’t see their best friends as often as they’d like because they’re long distance, and a majority of them first separated in early adulthood.
