RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--With 78 million baby boomers now in their 50s, Research Triangle entrepreneurs, authors and educators will kick off a nationwide organization, the Enrich Life Over 50 (ELO50) National Network, at a pilot meeting at the NCSU McKimmon Conference Center in Raleigh on Saturday, March 14.
Keynote speakers include Andy Albright, president and CEO of National Agents Alliance; award-winning couple Dana and Jim Robinson, SCORE consultants with the U.S. Small Business Administration and co-authors of six books; and Dr. Janice Wassel, Professor of Gerontology at UNC Greensboro. All are uniquely qualified to present ways to remain productively engaged after age 50 and into the later stages of adulthood.
ELO50 National Network Founder Bill Zinke co-authored a landmark 2000 paper, “The Evolution of Adulthood: A New Stage,” with renowned psychologist Elliot Jaques (who conceived the “mid-life crisis” concept). In addition to the traditional stages of adulthood from 18 to 40 and 40 to 62, the paper identified a third stage of adulthood from 62 to 85, during which people can continue contributing and adding value for substantially longer times.
“With 30 years added to Americans’ longevity in the last century, the older generations must remain productively and socially engaged for many years past traditional retirement,” said Zinke, who is in his 80s. “Our society cannot afford to have one-third of our population sitting on the sidelines during their extended longevity. They must become integrated into the country’s economic and social fabric. It’s time to organize a national movement to forge ahead with a new approach to aging, starting in the Research Triangle.”
Zinke will outline the national rollout and call local leaders to action at the event, scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by refreshments and socializing. There is no charge, but reservations are required. For more information and registration, visit www.elo50.com.
Enrich Life Over 50 is a national organization with planned chapters in 27 major cities throughout the country, dedicated to the regeneration of millions of Americans 50+ who are qualified and ready to continue in productive activities and forge ahead in their extended longevity.
