RADNOR, Pa.--()--Lincoln Financial Group (NYSE: LNC) announced today the winners of its recent “Give Thanks” photo contests, in which consumers, as well as its more than 9,000 employees, were invited to submit a captioned photo of the person for whom they are most thankful. Winning photos were featured in Lincoln Financial full-page ads in USA TODAY on December 16 and today.

“Taking the time to recognize important people in our lives is often something we take for granted or even overlook,” said Jamie DePeau, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, Lincoln Financial Group. “By leading a campaign designed to honor and recognize those important people, we helped drive many positive conversations that made a difference in people’s lives.”

The winning photo for the consumer outreach was submitted by Sommer Pacana of Buffalo, N.Y. Pacana’s photo captured a moment spent at her high school graduation with her mom, Renee. Renee Pacana is a single parent who made sacrifices throughout her life to raise her daughter, always putting her first and helping her become the person she is today. The Pacanas’ picture and story is featured in a full-page ad in today’s edition of USA Today.

“Without my dad around, my mom had to be two parents in one – no easy task,” said Pacana. “She gave up her own life to raise me, and always promised that, no matter what life brings, we’d get through it together. In high school, when I contracted viral meningitis and spent months in the hospital, nearly paralyzed and in excruciating pain, she never left my side. Thanks to her sacrifice, I’m now a freshman at Syracuse University. My mom is my best friend. Without her, I wouldn’t be who I am today.”

Lincoln Financial also conducted a “Give Thanks” campaign internally with employees. For that part of the campaign, the winning photo was submitted by Jill Hoyt, regional senior compliance advisor for Lincoln Financial Network. Hoyt’s photo featured her with her nephew Jaxson, and ran in the December 16 issue of USA Today.

“When my 10-year-old nephew Jaxson was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year, he had to put his carefree days on hold,” said Hoyt. “We were devastated for our little guy, but throughout several procedures, multiple rounds of chemo, a relapse and five long months in the hospital, his smile, laughter and courage never faded. And now, thanks to the sacrifice of an anonymous bone-marrow donor, he’s now at home and leukemia-free. His courage makes me a stronger person every day.”

Lincoln Financial’s “Give Thanks” campaign, which focused on embracing the authenticity of Thanksgiving, also included new television, radio and print ads; content on the company’s www.lincolnfinancial.com/givethanks microsite, which featured a wealth of financial tips and resources, as well as Thanksgiving crafts, recipes and traditions; and a “man on the street” video that captured individuals’ reflections on the holiday and the most important people in their lives.

“We congratulate the contest winners, whose stories are heartwarming, empowering and capture the essence of what it means to give thanks,” said DePeau. “Those attributes that also include optimism underpin everything that Lincoln Financial stands for in the marketplace.”
