--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The San Francisco Boys Chorus and the Cathedral of Christ the Light will host a traditional Winter holiday concert 8pm Saturday, December 20th, featuring the Hallelujah Chorus and other excerpts Handel's Messiah, plus other holiday favorites.
The magnificent Cathedral, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, is a glorious setting for the concert celebrating the season. The San Francisco Boys Chorus, under the direction of Ian Robertson, is the recipient of many awards, including the prestigious Grammy.
This December 20th concert at the Cathedral will be a wonderful break from the hectic days of the holiday season and opportunity to enjoy the angelic sound only a boys chorus can provide.
Founded in 1948 as the San Francisco Opera Boys Chorus, today's Chorus of more than 200 boys still provides trained boy singers to San Francisco Opera productions, including appearances in Tosca and LaBoheme this season. The San Francisco Boys Chorus has performed in San Francisco Opera productions and regularly performs with the San Francisco Symphony. In the summer of 2015, it will tour to Australia.
Artistic Director Ian Robertson, who joined the San Francisco Boys Chorus in 1996, leads an experienced faculty of youth choral directors and accompanists who oversee the exciting and comprehensive program of education and performance at three locations in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Since 1987, Robertson has also served as Chorus Director for the San Francisco Opera, which recently awarded him its highest artistic honor, the San Francisco Opera Medal. His esteemed faculty includes Associate Artistic Director Margaret Nomura Clark and Music Education Director Jennifer Cooper.
The San Francisco Boys Chorus provides a six-level music training program for Bay Area Boys, selected through competitive auditions. It holds bi-weekly rehearsals in San Francisco, San Rafael, and Oakland. The San Francisco Boys Chorus serves as the chorus-in-residence at the Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland, located at Harrison and Grand streets.
