CHARLESTON, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--STEM Premier today announced a formal partnership with the Berkeley County School District. Through the partnership, STEM Premier will provide all Freshman Academy, STEM Academy and CTE students with STEM Premier profiles at no cost to students or the school district.
The Freshman Academy is a transitional program to provide all incoming ninth grade students a foundation for success. Students in the Freshman Academy may participate in full programming to include the Arts, Athletics, Band, Career and Technical programs along with core educational programs.
Career and Technical Education (CTE) students participate in cutting-edge, rigorous and relevant courses that prepare them for a wide range of high-wage, high-skill, high-demand careers and post secondary education.
STEM Academy students in Berkeley County are engaged in outstanding educational opportunities through rigorous academic environments in the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The academy concept mirrors a school within a school concept. The STEM Academy focuses on academic integration and relevance with career awareness in specialized fields.
The STEM Premier platform enables students to build personal profiles showcasing their skills and talents so colleges, technical schools and companies can view the profiles and connect directly with students to share opportunities such as internships, scholarships and job openings. School guidance counselors will review student profiles during their Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) meetings and help students to market themselves and optimize their “personal brand.” The IGP is a road map that guides students toward their education, career and employment goals.
“We are delighted to announce this exciting partnership,” said STEM Premier Business Development & Diversity, Cara Florence. “The STEM Premier platform provides an innovative, fresh connectivity between students, post-secondary institutions and corporations.”
Berkeley County School District has marketed CTE classrooms to a growing list of local, major corporations to fund the expanded education opportunities. STEM Premier’s education platform has become a model arena for employers to view the future workforce. STEM Premier is helping Berkeley County lead the Lowcountry and the State in closing the nation’s global STEM performance gap.
“STEM Premier provides a much needed tool for our students to showcase individual skills and ability. Similar to what LinkedIn is for professionals, STEM Premier gives the next generation of students a venue to creatively market themselves, while capturing employment and educational prospects for the future,” said Tana Lee, Berkeley County School District CTE Director.
STEM Premier’s partnerships in the state began with the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce’s Career Academies program and led to a pilot initiative in Goose Creek High School. The program is focusing on South Carolina, with plans to expand to Pennsylvania, Indiana and Nevada. STEM Premier is actively collaborating with school districts, post-secondary institutions and businesses within the state and nationally to provide an innovative way to connect with the pipeline of talent and increase the amount of students entering academic and technical STEM careers.
