DETROIT--(BUSINESS WIRE)--On Tuesday November 11th TeamSmile, Dr. Chet Regula, Preferred Dental Group staff and a hundred+ volunteers including dentists, hygienists, dental assistants and dental students, plus a truck load of dental equipment descended on Detroit’s Loving Elementary School to provide 192 children with $124,690 worth of free dental treatment. These children received free oral health education, screening, treatment, and were taught that the mouth and body are linked to overall health.
“I want to thank TeamSmile, Jim Caldwell and the Detroit Lions for hosting and asking Preferred Dental Group to help with this extraordinary initiative – helping hundreds of children receive dental care was a beautiful experience. We cannot wait for next year!” said Dr. Chet Regula. “This unique program made a difference in the lives of these children and the Detroit community.”
Across the country, there are thousands of children who are not able to receive dental care. Many of their parents do not have the financial means or dental insurance to provide their families with this valuable service. TeamSmile's goal is to provide free preventative care, education and dental treatment to youth throughout the United States.
The children were excited to receive dental care and meet the Detroit Lions coach, players and mascot. The connection with the Detroit Lions changed TeamSmile from being an ordinary dental outreach event into being a dental program experience.
“Thank you to the Detroit Lions, 100+ volunteers and Loving Elementary School teachers and staff for making Tuesday’s program a great success – thank you, thank you,” said Kellie Reneau, Director of TeamSmile. “The volunteers opened their hearts, gave their talents and most importantly gave a gift that can change a child’s life for years to come.” This program was sponsored by a grant made by the ADA.
For many of these children, this was the first opportunity they had to receive dental care in their lives. The smiles on the children's faces and the tears in the parents' eyes say it all ... giving children access to dental care goes far beyond the treatment, it gives them hope for a better future.
We pride ourselves on delivery of world-class dental care in a friendly, inviting environment. Creating strong personal relationships and a commitment to constantly learning, growing and developing best practices is at the core of our beliefs.
