WINNIPEG, Manitoba--(BUSINESS WIRE)--RIVA, the fully automated IV compounding system developed by Intelligent Hospital Systems (IH Systems), continues to be ahead of competitors in overall performance and customer satisfaction, according to a new study of IV automation systems from independent healthcare research firm KLAS.
The study, “IV Robots & Workflow Management Systems: Is It Time to Adopt?” examined three pharmacy robots, including RIVA and its leading competitors. The report found RIVA “continues to provide the best customer experience.” RIVA’s overall performance score of 84.4 was the highest in the study. In addition, RIVA technology ranked higher than competitors for configurability, patient-specific dose throughput and readiness for widespread industry use.
“Medication safety is a priority for hospitals and pharmacies, and the important role of technology in achieving this goal is increasingly apparent,” said Dr. Niels Erik Hansen, president and CEO of IH Systems. “RIVA was designed not only to ensure the safety of IV medications, but also to help pharmacies increase efficiency by managing workflow and staff resources more effectively. RIVA continues to set the standard for pharmacy automation and safety.”
In assessing robot product performance, KLAS notes that, “Intelligent Hospital Systems’ RIVA again received the highest functionality scores.” RIVA also scored highest for overall product quality. Customers describe IH Systems as a proactive vendor that consistently develops and supports a quality product. Half of RIVA customers indicated IH Systems is the best vendor they work with, and said the vendor experience and robot performance are well worth the money, rating RIVA much higher on value.
RIVA has been the market leader in the U.S. and continues to have the most customers using its compounding systems. The technology has earned the highest customer rankings in several areas including quality of implementation, product working as promoted, delivery of new technology and, most important, overall satisfaction.
According to the report, of the reasons customer purchased RIVA technology, improving patient safety was first, followed by reducing outsourcing costs, improving staff efficiency and extending beyond-use dating of medications. Eighty percent of respondents report that compounding is the area where they are most vulnerable to making IV medication errors.
This is the fourth time in three years that RIVA has been recognized in a KLAS report. An earlier study of pharmacy automation, “U.S. IV Automation: Robots and Workflow Solutions in 2012,” gave RIVA high marks for having needed functionality, being ready for widespread industry use and customers that would buy it again. In the 2013 Best in KLAS report, RIVA was recognized as category leader for IV robots in pharmacy automation, a ranking that RIVA repeated in this year’s Best in KLAS study.
