Pelican Point Capital Partners Acquires Rights for The Letters - Mother Teresa Biopic (Exclusive)

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--()--Pelican Point Media LLC, the entertainment arm of Pelican Point Capital Partners LLC, has acquired global distribution rights to The Letters, a dramatic biopic that explores the life of Mother Teresa through letters she wrote to her longtime friend and spiritual advisor, Father Celeste van Exem over a nearly 50-year period.

“We are very excited to have acquired the global rights to 'The Letters' as Mother Teresa is an important and influential person who was a special spirit and a true giver,” says Ike Suri, Co-CEO of Pelican Point Capital Partners LLC. “I was lucky to have met her during my time as a student-aid in a blind school in New Delhi. We at Pelican hold her and the humanitarian work she did for the poorest of the poor in high regard.”

The film, written and directed by William Riead, will officially be distributed under the Pelican Point/Global Pictures Media LLC banner. Freestyle Releasing will handle US theatrical distribution set for Spring 2015.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Pelican Point Capital Partners to release this poignant and inspirational movie about one of the most important individuals of the 20th century,” says Grant Cramer of Global Pictures Media. “The bravery, selflessness and dedication to serving the sick and poor that Mother Teresa embodied is truly humbling and we believe Juliette Stevenson was able to capture her essence with a beautifully nuanced and subtle performance.” Cramer was executive producer on recently released November Man and box-office success Lone Survivor.

The film stars Juliet Stevenson (Bend It Like Beckham, Mona Lisa Smile, Truly Madly Deeply), Rutger Hauer (Batman Begins, Sin City, Blade Runner) and Max Von Sydow (Shutter Island, Minority Report, The Exorcist).

The film won Best of Fest at the Sedona International Film Festival and took home both Best Actress and Best Director at the International Catholic Film Festival which is held at the Vatican and dubbed the Catholic ‘Oscars’.

“Mother Teresa was a product of our time. This is an epic biopic about an exceptional human being, like Gandhi,” says Riead. “People respond to the truth, and the truth about Mother Teresa is she was amazing. This comes through in the film.”
