BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Distrigas of Massachusetts LLC, GDF SUEZ’s company that operates the Everett LNG Terminal, has received top honors in the “Large Facility” category of the U.S. Coast Guard’s 2013-2014 Rear Admiral Richard E. Bennis Award for Excellence in Maritime Security. One organization is granted an award in each of four categories – Port Authority, Large Facility, Small Facility, and Large Company.
The award recognizes and encourages organizations demonstrating a true comprehensive culture of security. More specifically, it recognizes outstanding achievements and contributions of the maritime community regarding the implementation of the Maritime Transportation Security Act requirements and other maritime security best practices in safeguarding our nation’s maritime transportation system.
“We are honored to receive this award,” said Tony Scaraggi, Vice President of Operations for Distrigas. “A focus on safety and security is not only important to our business, it’s the reason we have remained in operation for the past 42 years and will continue to be a key energy provider to New England well into the future. Our employee culture and corporate goals both support this focus and make our commitment real.”
In addition, the award serves as a tool to encourage organizations to assess their overall security program to identify strengths and weaknesses, seek creative solutions for addressing possible risks, build a system of continuing improvement, and share best practices that would benefit similar organizations.
Speaking of the award, President Patricia Foley of Save the Harbor/Save the Bay said, “It’s great to share the harbor with such a terrific corporate citizen. Distrigas really understands the importance of safety and the value of protecting our communities and natural resources.”
