CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Team Red, White and Blue (Team RWB), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting U.S. veterans, announced that it will be recognized by Starbucks, HBO and Chase, co-sponsors of THE CONCERT FOR VALOR, for outstanding service and support of veterans and their families. THE CONCERT FOR VALOR, a first-of-its-kind concert to honor the courage and sacrifice of America’s veterans and their families at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., will be presented live on HBO this Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 11 (7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT).
As part of the event, Team Red, White and Blue will be highlighted for its outstanding service and support of veterans and their families. An advisory committee led by Co-Chairs Admiral Mike Mullen and Secretary Robert Gates and comprised of thought leaders and passionate supporters of Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs) made these selections. The committee used a thoughtful selection process, and identified outstanding VSOs that address one of the following core pillars of successful transition for veterans and their families: employment, education, health and wellness, and reintegration. Additional committee members include executives at Starbucks, HBO, JP Morgan Chase, and the Schultz Family Foundation.
Team Red, White and Blue is honored to be a recipient of this recognition,” said Blayne Smith, Executive Director, Team RWB. “Since our inception in 2010, we have strived to bring veterans and their families together with the community through positive activities and meaningful engagement. What better way to honor the people who have served in the U. S. Armed Forces and their families, than by gathering in our nation’s capital for this incredible celebration.”
As co-sponsors of the event, Starbucks, HBO and Chase provide a national stage for ensuring veterans and their families know that their fellow Americans’ gratitude is genuine. The concert will feature a broad array of talent from the world of music and entertainment, including Eminem, Jamie Foxx, Dave Grohl, Metallica, John Oliver, Rihanna, Bruce Springsteen, Carrie Underwood and Zac Brown Band, as well as special appearances by Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, among others.
The concert will bring to a close Team RWB’s first annual Old Glory Coast to Coast Relay presented by BAND-AID® Brand Adhesive Bandages. The relay, which began on September 11, 2014, has succeeded at raising the awareness of the benefits of physical exercise and community building on veteran reintegration. It has also shown the power of America’s military, civilians and their families working together and united around a common cause. The Olympic torch style relay featured an American flag that was carried over 3,800 miles by each participant along the course from the Golden Gate Bridge, to the Veterans Administration hospital in Palo Alto, California, and on to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, just outside of Washington, D.C. The flag will be presented to Bob McDonald, United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs, on Sunday, November 9, 2014, and a benefit dinner, sponsored by Microsoft at the National Visitors Center in Washington D.C., will be held that evening.
