BILLERICA, Mass. & AUBURN, N.Y.--()--Seahorse Bioscience Inc. and Volpi USA Inc., a subsidiary of the Swiss headquartered Volpi Group liaises for the development and manufacturing of optical modules for the Seahorse XFe Extracellular Flux Analyzer.

The XF instruments analyze mitochondrial respiration and glycolysis in live cells, generating data in just minutes. XF technology uses solid-state sensors to simultaneously measure both oxygen consumption (OCR) and extracellular acidification rate (ECAR) in every well. Seahorse XFe 96 is the world’s most advanced cell metabolic analyzer and employs fiber optics based excitation and measurement technology from Volpi, an expert in the development and manufacturing of bio-photonic and optoelectronic systems.

Volpi develops and manufactures optical modules for Seahorse Biomedical in the manufacturing facility in Auburn, NY, USA.

“Volpi works with us through all stages of the development, provides extensive know-how on test procedures and specification, is able to adapt their solutions to our needs, delivers continuously best quality and has perfect sense for urgent matters” states Michael Tanner, VP Manufacturing at Seahorse Bioscience.

“We value the proactive attitude Volpi adopted throughout the development of the illumination and measurement module for the XFe 96 Analyzer and the strong personal engagement at all levels. The Seahorse Bioscience team enjoys working with Volpi.” states Jay Teich, CEO of Seahorse Bioscience.

“Throughout the development of the optical fiber module it was essential to team-up as an interdisciplinary team with experts from both companies combining expertise in biochemistry, physics and optics”, said Dr. Scott Kittelberger, Senior Technical Advisor at Volpi.

“The long lasting liaison with Seahorse Bioscience is a perfect example for a successful collaboration among highly qualified experts from a leading life science company such as Seahorse Bioscience and the OEM bio-photonic solution provider Volpi. We are impressed by the high performance, broad application range and strong market adoption of the Seahorse XFe Analyzers” states Max Kunz, CEO and Owner of Volpi.
