NEW ORLEANS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--LouisianaBio today announced that it is looking for members who want to work together to expand the growth of the biosciences industry in Louisiana. LouisianaBio is the state affiliate of the world’s largest biotechnology industry trade association, the Biotechnology Industry Association (BIO) based in Washington, DC. Information about joining LouisianaBio is available on its website or prospective members can call 504-598-5239.
“There are numerous benefits in joining LouisianaBio, not the least of which is the opportunity to access a purchasing program called BIO Business Solutions,” said Rhonda Melancon, executive director of LouisianaBio. “This program provides discounts to LouisianaBio members who make purchases from select companies that service the biotech industry, including companies such as VWR, Office Depot, FedEx, Business Wire, and Chubb Insurance.”
According to BIO officials, last year more than 2,700 biotech companies saved more than $138 million in aggregate through this program.
Perhaps the most important reasons for joining LouisianaBio are the opportunities to network with other biotech leaders, scientists, entrepreneurs and advocates across the state, and the region, and to play a role in giving voice to Louisiana’s biotechnology industry on a larger national and international stage.
“We launched LouisianaBio three years ago, but didn’t have full-time management,” said Aaron Miscenich, executive director of the New Orleans BioInnovation Center, and chairman of the LouisianaBio Board of Directors. “We needed someone like Rhonda Melancon who recognizes the potential in the growth of Louisiana’s life sciences industry, and could manage an organization that brings national and international resources to enhance that growth. LouisianaBio will serve as a voice for the industry, a resource for our biotech companies and research community, and as an information driver about Louisiana’s biotechnology industry.”
“By the end of year one, our members will have a far greater understanding about the work of their colleagues in other parts of the state, and beyond, which will hopefully lead to new discussions, new collaborations, and new discoveries, creating even more bioscience success here in Louisiana. LouisianaBio is absolutely committed to supporting our industry, serving our members, and raising awareness about Louisiana’s biotechnology industry,” said Melancon.
