DETROIT--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition, one of North America’s largest business competitions, today announced that Susan Packard, co-founder of Scripps Networks Interactive and former chief operating officer of HGTV, as the keynote speaker at this year’s gala event.
Previously, Packard held a variety of senior positions at Scripps Networks Interactive, the leading developer of lifestyle-oriented content for television and the Internet. Recognized by industry peers, colleagues and employees as an innovator, pioneer, role model and mentor, Susan created and served as president of Scripps Networks New Ventures, where she oversaw the development and launch of HGTV, DIY Network, Fine Living Network, and online interactive platforms. She was also president of worldwide distribution for the Scripps cable brands.
“As a Michigan native, it’s an honor to speak at this year’s Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition, especially given its contribution and success in reviving our resilient state and the city of Detroit,” said Susan Packard. “I hope to provide some insight on entrepreneurship from my perspective, specifically as an advocate for women in business and an entrepreneur myself.”
Investors, entrepreneurs, funders and experts in the innovation sector will attend this year’s competition along with 51 semifinalist companies who will compete for more than $1 million in cash and in-kind prizes. In addition to the business competition, Accelerate Michigan aims to showcase every facet of Detroit’s rich, artistic culture, including exhibitions from Leadhead Glass, Adora Bella Ceramics and Detroit Scroll.
