GLENWOOD, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--While it might not always seem that way, government agencies and departments were formed to help "we, the people". However, most people haven't a clue why they would ever need the Recorder of Deeds Office, their local township office, or the State's Attorney. The Village of Glenwood's first ever "Government Day", Wednesday, October 22 from 10 am to noon, aims to answer those questions.
Senior Director JoAnne Alexander stated, "We know all these agencies exist, and we know our tax dollars fund them, but most citizens don't know how these agencies can help solve their problems. Our Government Day will make that clear."
Alexander has lined up 13 presenters including State Representatives Anthony DeLuca and Thaddeus Jones, Illinois Commissioners Joan Murphy, Secretary of State's Office, Bloom and Thornton Townships, Cook County Assessor's Office and Sheriff's Office, Rules of the Road, Recorder of Deeds, Social Security Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, Medicare, I-Cash and Catholic Charities.
Each representative will have about 10 minutes for an introductory informational presentation. Every agency will also have table space to meet individually with citizens and answer questions in an informal atmosphere. There will be many brochures and printed sheets to explain available programs and help guide citizens through the agency's channels.
"We never think about looking into programs until we need them – and then we scramble around frantically when a need arises," says Alexander. "Knowing who can help and where to start will make a crisis much less overwhelming."
Alexander stresses this event is open to all ages. "We have plenty of space and we'll have coffee and refreshments. While this event will be of benefit to our families and retired seniors, everyone at all ages can learn something new here. It's perfect for teens and young adults interested in pursuing public service and politics as a career."
The event is being held at the John H. Blakey Senior Center, located at 1 South Rebecca Street in Glenwood. For further information, call JoAnne Alexander at 708-753-2438, email email@example.com or visit www.villageofglenwood.com.
