NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--William H. Sadlier, Inc., a leading U.S. catechetical publisher, is delighted to announce the publication of the English translation of several lectures, reports, homilies, and other documents on Holy Matrimony, the Family, and Life written by Pope Francis during his tenure as Archbishop of Buenos Aires. William Sadlier Dinger, Sadlier’s president, presented a special copy to Pope Francis in St. Peter’s Square on Sunday, September 28.
The presentation took place during Vatican events on a day dedicated to the elderly and grandparents. Mr. Dinger announced that Sadlier and Paulist Press will publish an inspirational study guide including these writings in early 2015.
Gathered and compiled at the direction of Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, president of the Pontifical Council for the Family, the collection of writings, never before available in English, will provide useful insight into the family and society as a whole, especially as the October 2014 Extraordinary Synod of Bishops on the Family begins. A copy of this publication will be given by the Council to all 253 participants attending the Extraordinary Synod. It will also be an asset for two other significant family-related events that will take place in the coming year: the Eighth World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia in September 2015 and the Ordinary Synod of Bishops on the Family in October 2015.
Mr. Dinger noted that “the world has come to have tremendous respect for Pope Francis and the way he addresses critical issues in a compassionate and plain-spoken manner, an approach he honed as a priest and bishop. Though issues may be complex, his presentation captures attention and helps lead to understanding. Throughout his ministry, one of the themes interwoven into his teaching is the importance of the family in all stages of a person’s life, and the role of the family in the life of the Church and of the world. In a homily as archbishop, the Pope explained that ‘the family is indispensable to a person’s becoming aware of and developing his or her dignity,’ loving us as we are, nurturing our growth in happiness and vocation, and in turn providing society with the ability to recognize the essential dignity of the person. The compilation of writings in this book clearly reveals the pastoral wisdom and intellectual depth of Pope Francis, and shares with the English-speaking world his teachings long-appreciated in Argentina and the rest of Latin America.”
