HAINAN, China--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mission Hills Group, a pioneer in China’s hospitality, sports and leisure industry, today announced that it will host its third annual Mission Hills World Celebrity Pro-Am as part of its effort to create the world’s largest leisure and entertainment destination around golf. The tournament, from October 24-26 at the Mission Hills Haikou Resort on China’s tropical island of Hainan, will unite leading A-list film and music industry icons, champion golfers and other sports legends from the U.S., China and around the world.

Demonstrating the shifting tastes in leisure among the Chinese, the Mission Hills World Celebrity Pro-Am is uniquely centered around golf and the film industry. As part of the event, 24 celebrities and 24 professional golfers will come together at Mission Hills’ premier facilities for a range of golf, gala events, and other entertainment activities, such as an exhibition of the new combination sport that Mission Hills recently introduced to China, football golf. Among the A-list celebrities participating are Morgan Freeman, Jessica Alba, Nicole Kidman, and Kenny G., as well as basketball legend Yao Ming. Top ranked professional golfers include 2013 U.S. Open champion Justin Rose, Ian Poulter, multiple Major winners Gary Player and Greg Norman, ex-Masters champion Ian Woosnam, former Open Championship winner Darren Clarke and Europe's 2014 Ryder Cup Captain, Paul McGinley. During the tournament, which will be broadcast in 160 countries and territories worldwide, the teams will face off over two rounds of four-ball, competing for an individual prize of one million dollars.
Also participating will be the heavy hitters of China's booming film industry, to celebrate the recent opening of Mission Hills Movie Town - the film-themed complex and brainchild of famed Chinese director Feng Xiaogang. In addition to its state-of-the-art film studios, entertainment and leisure activities, the attraction also features vintage street settings from Feng's classic movies, paying homage to the only Chinese director with a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.
