WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Universal American (NYSE:UAM) announced today its 2015 Medicare Advantage plans designed to meet the healthcare needs of people with Medicare in Texas, Upstate New York and Maine. The company’s TexanPlus® and Today’s Options® brands offer products that are built around Universal’s longstanding commitment to collaborate with healthcare providers, especially primary care physicians, to drive higher quality and lower cost solutions for our members.
Universal American has focused its attention only on markets where it can positively impact the cost and quality of healthcare. Nearly 85 percent of its Medicare Advantage expected membership for 2015 will be in plans currently rated 4-Star by Medicare1. The additional bonus revenue from the 4-Star plans has allowed the company to offer the same or lower monthly premiums for 95 percent of its renewing plans while maintaining, and in some cases improving, plan benefits.
“Medicare beneficiaries and baby boomers turning 65 want high quality healthcare at a competitive price. The growing number of people choosing to enroll in Medicare Advantage is a testament to the value of the program,” said Erin Page, President of Medicare for Universal American. “For many years, we have worked successfully with primary care physicians to improve the cost of care for our members and, equally important, the quality of our plans. Our 2015 Medicare Advantage plans offer flexibility and choice to help members live healthy, be active and stay independent.”

Medicare is a critical source of healthcare for millions of Americans. More than 15 million people – accounting for roughly 30 percent of all people with Medicare – have chosen to enroll in Medicare Advantage plans. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently reported that for a fifth straight year, enrollment in Medicare Advantage plans is projected to increase to an all-time high.
Medicare beneficiaries can enroll in Universal American’s 2015 Medicare Advantage plans during the annual election period, which begins Oct. 15, 2014, and ends Dec. 7, 2014. For most people with Medicare, this is the one time of year they can make changes to their Medicare coverage.
1 Medicare evaluates plans based on a 5-Star rating system. Star Ratings are calculated each year and may change form one year to the next.
