DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cenergistic is working with school districts across the country involved in its energy conservation management programs to have up to 600 buildings earn ENERGY STAR certification in 2014. It’s all part of an EPA campaign called “Certification Nation” to mark the 15th anniversary of the first time a commercial building earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) ENERGY STAR certification.
ENERGY STAR has named Cenergistic as one of only two Elite Partners in the campaign who have certified the most commercial buildings so far in 2014. (See Link: http://www.energystar.gov/buildings/about_us/how_can_we_help_you/recognition/earn_recognition_your_building_or_plant/certification_nation-1) In addition to a blitz of certification activity across the country, the national campaign will also feature stories, tips, and advice on ways to create a sustainable business culture of energy conservation.
Cenergistic has worked with school districts enrolled in its energy conservation management programs to earn more than 5,500 ENERGY STAR certifications in 43 states since 2001. This represents more than 50% of all K-12 certifications in the U.S. Over its nearly 30 years of operations, Cenergistic has helped its clients save more than $3.5 billion by reducing their energy consumption an average of 20% to 40%. In some instances, clients have achieved more than 60% savings. Cenergistic and several of its clients have also been awarded with the ENERGY STAR program’s highest honor—the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award—for their outstanding commitment to reducing emissions through strategic energy management.
“We are pleased to help EPA celebrate 15 years of ENERGY STAR certified buildings,” said Dr. Randy Hoff, PE, CEO of Cenergistic. “We are proud to have helped our clients realize energy and cost savings and reduce their carbon footprint. Helping them achieve ENERGY STAR certification from EPA for their buildings is another example of how Cenergistic works with its clients to create sustainable energy conservation programs to help reduce energy costs and redirect those funds for more important purposes, such as raises for teachers and educational programs for students.”
Hoff said that in addition to school districts, Cenergistic has assisted hospitals, health care facilities, churches, office buildings, university residence halls, and hotels to earn ENERGY STAR certifications.
Commercial buildings that earn EPA’s ENERGY STAR are verified to perform in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency. They use an average of 35 percent less energy than typical buildings and are responsible for 35 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
“What we’re really celebrating this year are the achievements of the businesses and organizations like Cenergistic that work every day to help manage commercial building energy use,” said Jean Lupinacci, Chief of the ENERGY STAR Commercial & Industrial Branch. “Together, the teams behind these top-performing properties have achieved significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions as well as cost savings for our cities, our schools, and the businesses that power America’s economy.”
Since 1999, more than 24,000 commercial buildings and industrial plants have earned EPA’s ENERGY STAR for superior energy performance. As of the end of 2013, they’ve prevented more than 40 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions and saved more than $3 billion on utility bills.
Products, homes and buildings that earn the ENERGY STAR label prevent greenhouse gas emissions by meeting strict energy efficiency requirements set by the U.S. EPA. In 2013 alone, Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR, saved an estimated $30 billion on their utility bills and prevented greenhouse gas emissions equal to the annual electricity use of more than 38 million homes. From the first ENERGY STAR qualified computer in 1992, the label can now be found on products in more than 70 different categories, 1.5 million new homes, and 24,000 commercial buildings and industrial plants.
Cenergistic is a technology-powered, data-driven energy conservation company that helps organizations reduce energy consumption an average of 20% to 40%.
