PROVO, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--i.TV, the largest consumer social platform built specifically for television, today launched Spit, an iOS app that tests fans’ ability to correctly predict the outcome of real-time plays during nationally televised sporting events. Fans can challenge friends to join them as they play along with NFL, NBA, MLB, NCAAF and NCAAB games.
“Sports viewers are usually just as competitive as the players on the field,” said Brad Pelo, i.TV CEO. “Fans familiar with fantasy sports know that you don’t play during the game – you simply await the outcome. Spit allows you to compete with others in real-time while watching your favorite team lock horns with an opponent. Spit makes a game out of watching the game, encouraging users to become active participants instead of passive viewers.”
Fans can easily challenge their friends to compete, and a built-in chat feature means they can trash talk to their hearts’ content.
Spit users can choose from a variety of games broadcast on live TV each day. Before the game begins, fans weigh in on general predictions such as the winning team and final score. Once the game starts, participants are presented with real-time questions (e.g., “Will the next play be a run or a pass?”), each with a 10-second time limit and variable point potential. Points are awarded seconds after the play is completed, and the fan’s leaderboard position is adjusted accordingly.
“Spit is easy to play, unlike traditional fantasy sport experiences that require hours of complex setup,” said Jason McGowan, head of product for Spit. “You can just jump in and play with your friends in a matter of seconds.”
