Research and Markets: European Diagnostic and Interventional Ophthalmic Devices Market Report 2014

DUBLIN--()--Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/wvjbj8/european_markets) has announced the addition of the "European Markets For Diagnostic And Interventional Ophthalmic Devices" report to their offering.

This report covers both diagnostic and interventional ophthalmic equipment. Ophthalmic diagnostic devices are used for identifying ocular conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, retinal detachment and refractive errors. Ophthalmic diagnostic devices include optical coherence tomographers (OCTs), fundus cameras, slit lamps, perimeters, tonometers, ophthalmic ultrasound systems, corneal topographers and wavefront aberrometers. Many of these diagnostic devices are used by ophthalmologists, optometrists and opticians.

In terms of interventional equipment, this report focuses primarily on cataract surgery. Separate chapters are included for phacoemulsification consoles and interocular lenses (IOLs). Phacoemulsification consoles provide a platform for cataract surgery and facilitate the associated lens removal process. IOLs are implanted into the patient's eye during cataract surgery after the patient's natural lens has been emulsified and removed. In addition, there is a chapter on refractive, or Phakic, lenses.

Some of the diagnostic devices covered in this report have applications for cataract surgery. For example, corneal topographers are an important pre-operative step with advanced technology IOL implantation. IOLs can be designed to correct for astigmatism and corneal topography provides the greatest degree of information on the precise characteristics of a patient's astigmatism. Wavefront aberrometers are also used in conjunction with cataract surgery. It is important to note, however, that both wavefront aberrometers and corneal topographers also have applications in refractive surgery, as well as in more routine diagnostic procedures.
