CARPINTERIA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CKE Restaurants Holdings, Inc. (“CKE”), parent company of Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s, today signed a development agreement with India’s BrightStar Restaurants Private Limited, owned by CybizCorp. The initial agreement is for up to 100 new Carl’s Jr. restaurants. The deal is the first in India for the premium burger chain that believes there is potential for more than 1,000 Carl’s Jr. restaurants in India over time.
“We have been preparing for an entry in India for more than three years, and after substantial due diligence we decided to sign CybizCorp as our franchise partner in the country,” said Ned Lyerly, President of International at CKE Restaurants. “We see tremendous potential in the Indian market, and CybizCorp’s proven track record in the franchise sector in both real estate and food and beverage gives us great confidence in the partnership and our future success in the country.”
“The time is right for a premium burger quick-service restaurant such as Carl’s Jr. to enter India, as we are witnessing a ‘burger revolution’ in our country, a parallel phenomena that was witnessed in the Pizzas and Pasta category a decade back,” said Sam Chopra, Group Chairman and Founder of CybizCorp. “The advent of multiple brands in the premium burger category in the recent past bears testimony to this trend. After successfully managing the Master Franchises of some of the most premium stand alone outlets in the country, representing an iconic brand like Carl’s Jr. will be an exciting proposition. We looked for the best in quick-service burgers and chose Carl’s Jr. We look forward to a wonderful partnership with CKE, and our first store opening is anticipated for spring 2015!”
Known for its one-of-a-kind premium menu items such as its signature line of charbroiled Thickburgers, Made from Scratch™ Biscuits, Hand-Breaded Chicken Tenders™ and Hand-Scooped Ice Cream Shakes™ made with premium ice cream, Carl’s Jr. and its sister-chain Hardee’s continue to deliver substantial and consistent growth in the U.S. and overseas. More than any other quick-service restaurant (“QSR”), Carl’s Jr. is recognized for its premium products, centered on a wide variety of fresh, big and delicious charbroiled burgers that lead the industry in taste, quality and innovation. The brand also is well-known for its edgy, award-winning marketing approach, and its popularity can be gauged by the millions of YouTube views that its advertisements capture.
For India, Carl’s Jr. has developed a full line of fresh and flavorful, premium vegetarian options that speak to Indian tastes and preferences. Many of these new items that are unique to the India market will be launched in addition to several signature Carl’s Jr. menu items known and loved around the world.
“We are thoroughly overjoyed with this new partnership between CybizCorp and CKE,” said Ms. Sana Chopra, Director at Cybiz BrightStar Restaurants Private Limited. “I personally have great faith and belief in this brand and know that our unique offerings, including premium vegetarian burger options, are going to be greatly enjoyed by the Indian consumers of today. Partial table service and contemporary, comfortable upscale California-themed décor in a QSR environment is something unique to the India market.”
In addition to entering India, CKE recently opened Carl’s Jr. restaurants in new markets including Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, Ecuador, New Zealand and the Bahamas.
