CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Accelerate Institute today announced the appointment of Nora Ligurotis to Chief Executive Officer of the non-profit organization dedicated to the development of high-impact urban school leaders who accelerate student achievement. Ligurotis replaces Rob Birdsell, who is leaving this fall to launch a venture philanthropy fund focused on starting new models of Catholic schools across the country.
“We are excited to have Nora take over the CEO role,” Pat Ryan, founder of the Accelerate Institute, said. “Nora joined us in May as vice president of marketing, and brings deep expertise in building awareness and brand recognition for a range of organizations both public and private. Her entrepreneurial background will be an important asset for us as we continue our national expansion.”
Ligurotis is former president of TargetCom, an integrated marketing company which she co-founded in 1988 and subsequently sold to MDC Partners. She continued to lead TargetCom for 13 years after the sale. In her new role as Accelerate Institute CEO, she will be charged with furthering the organization’s national expansion that Birdsell began and increasing its product offerings.
“I’m honored to be part of an organization committed to the critical mission of closing the achievement gap in urban schools,” Ligurotis said. “I believe my background in marketing and team-building can help elevate the Accelerate Institute’s recognition as the premier organization in training school leaders to transform school performance.”
The Accelerate Institute is dedicated to ensuring all children have the opportunity to achieve to their fullest potential. It identifies high-performing, results-focused school leadership with a passion for closing the achievement gap in urban education.
