Erie Regional Career Readiness Report to Be Presented on Thurs., Aug. 14: Report Will Detail How Economic and Employment Needs Align with Educational Readiness

EDINBORO, Pa.--()--Seeking to expand educational and career development opportunities for all students in the Erie region, in 2013 the General McLane Foundation initiated the Regional Career Planning Project which includes all public school districts in Erie and Crawford Counties. The goal of the Project is to help area school districts implement a Career Driven Education Model, which cross references educational training with local economic and job forecast data, thereby helping the local business community by providing better prepared workers who are properly trained and motivated to pursue jobs and careers that are available in the region.

At the Aug. 14 presentation, Joseph Kent, director of partnerships for WIN Learning, will present a report, which leverages data provided by Dr. James Kurre, director of the Erie Economic Research Institute. The data will be incorporated into WIN Learning’s award-winning, customized software system which allows students to explore and determine career interests and specific career employment goals, and then obtain the literacy, mathematics, and soft skills training necessary to begin the journey to their chosen pathway. The WIN Learning system also analyzes local economic data such as labor force supply and demand, and employment projections. With all regional school districts using the same integrated system and making employers aware of student credentials obtained through the program, the Project intends to overcome the area’s “skills mismatch” problem, thus helping students, residents, and the local business community thrive.
