BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Citizens Financial Group Inc.’s commercial bank, RBS Citizens, today announced a national expansion of its MidCorporate business and increased financing capabilities for companies in growth industries including health care, technology and franchising. Previously, Citizens focused principally on the New England, Mid-Atlantic and Midwestern markets served by its Citizens Bank and Charter One retail branch networks.
“We have grown from a bank with a strong but regionally focused Commercial Banking division to a top lead arranger of syndicated loans for middle market companies,” said Robert Matthews, Vice Chairman for Commercial Banking. “Having invested significant resources in new technology platforms, treasury products and staff, we are excited to be delivering innovative financing ideas and great service to companies across the country.”
To enable the national expansion announced today, Citizens has hired teams of experienced commercial bankers across its traditional New England, Mid-Atlantic and Midwestern markets and also in the following markets:
- Washington, DC
- Charlotte, NC
- Los Angeles
RBS Citizens has also made key hires to bolster its capabilities in specialties such as lender finance, treasury services and global markets.
Offering both the high touch, relationship-based approach of a local bank and the global capabilities and sophistication of a larger bank, Citizens Financial Group has distinguished itself for its ability to respond quickly to the financing and treasury needs of its customers and for its capacity to deliver innovative corporate finance deal structures.
In 2012, Citizens entered into a strategic alliance with Oppenheimer & Co. to help Citizens customers receive the specialized services of an investment bank focused on the middle market while maintaining relationships with their primary Citizens bankers. This offering was recognized last year as the “Most Innovative Product” by Barlow Research Associates in its Monarch Innovation Awards.
“These investments build on our existing strengths in a number of specialty finance areas such as franchise finance, where we already are a national player, as well as healthcare, technology and lender finance. We have hired and continue to hire many of the leading bankers in these fields,” Matthews said. “As we respond to the demand that exists across the country for the ideas and execution of a strong wholesale bank like Citizens, we are laser-focused on maintaining the customer-centric approach that has been the hallmark of our growth to date.
Providence-based Citizens Financial Group announced in June that it will be changing the name of its commercial banking division from RBS Citizens to Citizens Commercial Banking later this year.
