ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--On August 4th, MPR Associates, Inc., a leading supplier of specialty engineering services, project management, and technical solutions, celebrated its 50th Anniversary.
The company was founded in 1964 by Harry Mandil, Bob Panoff, and Ted Rockwell, three individuals who were instrumental in Admiral Hyman Rickover’s U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. The three set out to build a company in which its engineers could work closely to maintain the highest standards of technical excellence. Its early projects were for clients in the emerging commercial nuclear industry and the U.S. Navy; MPR has since evolved into three main business groups: Power, Product Development, and Federal.
MPR’s power business has grown into an internationally recognized solution provider. The company has had an impact on the success of every nuclear plant currently operating in the United States and many of those under construction or operating around the world. MPR’s talented engineers have worked with the industry to solve its most difficult challenges, including those arising from Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima Daiichi.
The company has made an impact on the success of projects utilizing fossil fuels, renewable energy sources, and in the oil & gas industry. In fossil and renewable power generation, MPR’s projects have spanned the globe and include technical due diligence, project management, new project development, and improvement of reliability, environmental compliance, and operational performance. Within oil & gas, MPR has supported clients in upstream and mid-stream sectors, and in 2001 formed the joint venture company, CH-IV International, which is focused on LNG projects.
MPR has served the U.S. Government in projects for the Navy, Department of Energy, and the Department of Homeland Security. One of MPR’s first projects for the Navy was to improve the safety of the U.S. submarine fleet following the loss of the USS Thresher. MPR’s Federal group has improved the reliability and performance of ships and led the implementation of first-of-a-kind technologies. Recently, MPR has delivered ventilation platforms to support the decommissioning of USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65), the first U.S. nuclear powered aircraft carrier to be decommissioned.
In the 1990s, MPR entered the Life Sciences industry, developing a first-of-a-kind medical drug and delivery system. Since that time, the company has been instrumental in developing breakthrough products for blood glucose monitoring, liposuction, cell separation, wound care, and diagnostics - including the award winning LAESI DP-1000 system for high- throughput biological mass spectroscopy. MPR’s product development quality system has received certification for compliance with ISO-9001 and ISO-13485.
Over the past 50 years, MPR has grown to nearly 250 employees and has performed work in more than 70 countries. The company continues its focus on delivering excellence and value to clients in diverse industries.
