La Posada de Santa Fe Hails King of Capsicum
Chile Season in Santa Fe Is So Hot - It's Cool
Sliced, diced, or whole. Dried, sautéed, roasted, pickled or stuffed. Even strung up for household decorations, the humble chile takes the spotlight for the month of September throughout New Mexico, and La Posada de Santa Fe, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, has as many ways to celebrate the king of capsicum as there are methods to prepare it.
The city's annual Wine and Chile Fiesta, September 24 – 29, celebrates the state's favorite ingredient and symbol of welcome and hospitality with wine dinners at area restaurants. Fuego at La Posada will offer a five-course meal, including wine pairings from the cellars of Merryvale Vineyards in Napa Valley, for $120 per person. The menu includes lightly smoked, pan-seared Chilean sea bass, rabbit prepared two ways: braised with a stewed fig ravioli, and an empanada of rabbit confit and roasted poblano peppers, as well as a slow braised La Mont buffalo short ribs served with a chocolate, Chimayo red chile and roasted pinon mole. Reservations can be made online at OpenTable.com or by calling the hotel directly at 505-986-0000. Fuego also will participate in the fiesta's grand tasting event, at the opera grounds, September 27, from 1 - 4 p.m. For more information: https://www.santafewineandchile.org
Santa Fe's newest event, the Green Chile Cheeseburger Smackdown, culminates on September 12 when six of the city's best compete for bragging rights at the Railyard. La Posada's custom creation, The New Mexican, consisting of three sliders, has everyone in town yakking. The burgers are made from New Mexican yak (known as wylie), locally raised beef and buffalo and stuffed with three kinds of green chiles. Fans of Fuego's New Mexican can help the burger advance to the final Smackdown by visiting http://santafe.org/Fun_Food_Event and voting for Fuego.
La Posada de Santa Fe, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, offers customized hotel packages for festival weekends, including a two-night spa package with two locally inspired spa treatments per person starting at $535 per night. Guests visiting for the wine and chile fiesta can also take advantage of La Posada's hotel packages and add on tickets to the grand tasting held at the Santa Fe Opera, chef's demonstrations, luncheons and more.
"There's so much to do during chile season, particularly during the Wine and Chile Fiesta, that it takes some expert advice to get the most from your visit," said Ben Tutt, general manager of La Posada. "Our experienced concierge team is comprised of long-time residents and fiesta fans, so they know the best way to approach all of the city's special events."
