Shareholder InSite Adds Extensive Enhancements to Qval Platform for Valuation and Deal Management

New product capabilities address demand from Venture Capital and Private Equity firms for enhanced data management, analytics, reporting

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--()--Shareholder InSite®, Inc. (http://www.shareholderinsite.com), the premier provider of shareholder management, analysis, reporting and valuation solutions and services, today announced several major enhancements to its flagship Qval® product. The leading valuation and deal management platform for venture capital and private equity firms, Qval® supports fund-level collection, analysis and reporting of portfolio company documentation and data.

With this newest software release, Qval modules for valuation report building, deal modeling, deal scenarios, and document management have all been enhanced — giving investors greater visibility and faster reporting with more accurate data. These new features address direct feedback from Shareholder InSite’s 100+ plus VC and private equity clients and further deepen the already powerful capabilities of the product line even further.

“Shareholder InSite is focused on helping clients to effectively leverage portfolio company data with ease,” says President, Brett Suchor. “By listening to them and hearing what’s on their analytical radar, we can continually leverage their insights into enhancements for daily workflow and deal management. While our products are inherently scalable, new functionalities don’t happen without our clients’ continued participation in driving our product roadmap. Because we listen to our clients, our products are able to grow as they do.”

Dynamic Personal Ownership

Qval’s Waterfall Analysis, which shows payouts by class across a range of enterprise values, has been enhanced to also show payouts by investor. Users can now visually track payouts for investors who may own a single security or multiple securities and view how the terms for each security (liquidation preference, participation, etc.) affect their returns as enterprise value grows. Other enhancements to the Waterfall Analysis include:

  • Breakpoints - Breakpoints can now be displayed on the payout chart including text that explains breakpoint activity.
  • Investor Proceeds Display - Mouseover an Investor to see the proceeds.
  • Controlling Parties Display - Aggregates all controlling Investors and displays as a single group on the chart if selected.
  • Flexible Chart Types - Line charts, stacked bar charts, area charts or stacked area charts.
  • Flexible Chart Details - Ability to enable or disable chart details: data point markers, liquidation range, legend, breakpoints and cross-hairs.
  • Export Functionality - Ability to export the Waterfall Analysis chart and calculated data to Excel.

Secondary Transactions Enhancement

Due to the continued growth of secondary transactions, where investors are purchasing shares from other investors rather than from the purchasing company, Shareholder InSite has added functionality to allow users to consider secondary purchases as an indication of enterprise value. These transactions are generally considered only when they are completed in an active market and an orderly transaction. By adding new calculations within the Backsolve and changes to the Topic 820 Wizard and Report, users can now use a Blended Backsolve to solve for one or more rounds at different prices. This expanded functionality gives users yet another approach to establish enterprise value that will withstand audit scrutiny.

Enhanced Document Collection

Since document collection can be tedious, Shareholder InSite provides functionality for users to easily get needed financial information, and then keep track of where everything is throughout the process. Whether a file or form data is needed, or just a question that needs answering, this tool now allows users to request it and provides the user with a simple portal to get this data, automatically. The Document Collection Portal is completely redesigned for a more user-friendly experience. Most functionality remains from the existing portal; however, it is now much easier to know where to upload files, and for which Document Requests a file has been uploaded to complete a request.

Reporting Packages

Users of Qval range from funds with a handful of companies to several hundred. With this latest release, users can build reporting packages by Fund that reflect the full suite of both customized and standard reports within the platform. These report packaging tools allow our users to build report packages that include fund-level reports with any combination of different company-level reports (for one, a few, or all their companies). Users can mix and match any combination of reports to provide high-level, fund-level data and easily drill into the detailed company-level information.

“The fin-tech landscape changes by the nanosecond, and our products are borne out of adaptability,” said Shareholder InSite CEO, Joe Maxwell. “We’ve led the pack on valuation tools, but we are also focused very much on the quotidian, the day-to-day rigors of how these tools are living up to demand for investors and managers. These recent enhancements, we feel, show our investment in always driving change and delivering products that evolve with a complex landscape,” Maxwell added.

Shareholder InSite provides online and real-time solutions and services across shareholder management, analytics, reporting and valuation. “These major enhancements,” notes Suchor, “are meant to keep our finger on the pulse of our clients and to help them meet continued demands to build fund returns and provide greater transparency.”
