LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Proa® Medical, Inc., developer of innovative and practical medical devices for women's health, today announced it has created a joint venture -- Proa Medical Mexico -- to distribute its Brella® family of gynecological and obstetrical devices throughout Mexico. The joint venture will provide Proa Medical with access to a large and growing market of OB/GYNs in Latin America, where a high number of episiotomies are performed that could benefit from the devices.
Proa Medical’s Brella family of devices includes two innovative devices. The Brella® Vaginal Retractor is a single-use retractor with a built-in light source designed to provide optimal visualization and access during repair of the vaginal walls and perineum. The Brella-Spec™ Vaginal Speculum was recently cleared by the FDA as a single-use device for improved visualization and exposure of the interior of the vagina during gynecological and obstetrical procedures and examinations.
“Proa Medical received a very favorable response to the Brella Vaginal Retractor from physicians and hospitals at the Mexican Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics last fall,” said Afshin Nadershahi, MD, Chief Technology Officer of Proa Medical. “That demonstrated to us that there is a large global market that could benefit from our devices. Physicians and hospitals were interested in the improved outcomes and time savings that could be delivered by our products.”
“Proa Medical’s devices can improve some of the most commonly-performed medical procedures in the world,” said Arman Nadershahi, Chief Executive Officer of Proa Medical. “Because of this, we are actively seeking additional distribution partners in important markets globally that can bring our portfolio of innovative women’s health devices to physicians in order to better serve their patients.”
